Mobile Deposit FAQs

Unless otherwise instructed by F&M, Mobile Deposit users agree to endorse any checks transmitted through the Mobile Banking app with the following:

Signed Endorsement – Include names of all payees noted on the front of the check.

“For Mobile Deposit Only” – Include this standard instruction line in the endorsement(s).
Once you’ve successfully deposited the check, mark the front side with the date of deposit and store it in a secure location for 14 days to prevent it from being re-submitted for deposit. You agree never to re-submit to F&M or any other party a check or item deposited through Mobile Deposit. After 14 days, and once you’ve confirmed the deposited funds were correctly applied to your account, you will need to destroy the check by shredding or other means. F&M Mobile Deposit can accept most checks in their original form, payable directly to you. Only checks drawn on U.S. institutions can be processed. We cannot accept checks made payable to any person or entity other than you, or money orders or traveler checks. Please refer to F&M Mobile Deposit Capture Terms and Conditions for complete details. Our software uses an Image Quality Assessment (IQA) tool to automatically identify problems with the check image. If the software detects a problem, you’ll be asked to retake the photo.
The cut-off time for electronic deposit is 4:00 PM ET on any business day (Monday–Friday, excluding state or federal holidays). Note: This daily cut-off time is subject to change without notice.

You can make Mobile Deposits any time of day or night, weekends or holidays. However, electronic deposits we receive after the daily cut-off time will be processed the next business day, provided they meet all requirements for acceptance and successful processing. Deposits submitted on holidays or weekends will also be processed the next business day and subject to the same requirements.
All electronic deposits are subject to our verification procedures, and we may refuse, limit or return deposits for any reason. If your deposit status changes, F&M will contact you to let you know. Yes. F&M may establish limits on the number of checks and/or total amount of checks deposited using Mobile Deposit. These limits may vary by customer and change from time to time without notice. You may not deposit more than $5,000 per check or more than $5,000 per day. Items that exceed these limits may be rejected. Mobile Deposit Capture lets you digitally deposit checks from an iPhone® or Android™ smartphone into any deposit account. Use your smart phone’s camera to snap a picture of the front and back of each check, then submit the image for deposit (see Helpful Tips on Using Mobile Deposit below). Mobile Deposit reduces the risk of loss or theft and improves cash flow. Generally, if we receive and accept an image of an item you transmit through Mobile Deposit before our daily cut-off time, we’ll consider that business day the day of deposit. Funds from deposits received, accepted and successfully processed through Mobile Deposit are typically available for withdrawal the first business day after the day of your deposit. Note: Successful processing of a check or item could be delayed due to bank review and verification procedures. F&M may apply additional delays on the availability of funds based on any other factors we determine at our sole discretion.

Helpful Tips on Using Mobile Deposit

  • Flatten folded or crumbled checks before taking photos
  • Keep only the check within the viewfinder, no other objects or edges
  • Ensure you have good lighting
  • Use a dark background
  • Ensure all four corners of the check are visible
  • Keep the focus sharp with enough distance from the check to prevent blurry images

Recommended Security Best Practices

  • Engage your mobile device’s lock function with a password or Personal Identification Number (PIN), since it may not be on by default. If your mobile device has an auto-lock timer that activates the lock mode after a period of time, use it to avoid problems if your device is lost or stolen. Change the lock password or PIN frequently.
  • Deactivate a compromised mobile phone number or device immediately to protect the confidentiality of your username(s) and password(s).
  • Keep the mobile banking app up to date. As we update and add new security features, you’ll want to be sure you have the latest version.
  • Keep your device physically secured or in a secure location at all times to prevent loss or theft. If your device is lost or stolen, please review your account activity and contact us immediately regarding any suspicious transactions.
  • Take appropriate precautions when using public Wireless Local Area Networks.
  • Exercise due diligence with unexpected messages or notifications. Do not click on suspicious links or push notifications sent via unsolicited text message or email.
